The Ukrainian documentary film by director Mstyslav Chernov, "2000 Meters to Andriivka," has been shortlisted for the prestigious EE BAFTA Film Awards 2026 in the category "Best Documentary Film." The film covers the events of Ukraine’s counteroffensive in the Bakhmut direction in September 2023.

Mstyslav Chernov and photographer Oleksandr Babenko follow a platoon of Ukrainian soldiers from the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, tasked with crossing a fortified forest to liberate the village of Andriivka. Almost the entire surrounding area is mined, and the village is largely destroyed. The journalists capture the soldiers’ life in the trenches and the brutal battles for this key counteroffensive bridgehead.

The nominees in the "Best Documentary Film" category are:

  • "2000 Meters to Andriivka" – directed by Mstyslav Chernov
  • "Apocalypse in the Tropics" – directed by Petra Koshta
  • "Cover-Up" – directed by Laura Poitras and Mark Obenhaus
  • "Mr Nobody Against Putin" – directed by David Borenstein
  • "The Perfect Neighbour" – directed by Gita Gandbhir

The full list of nominees in all categories is available on the official BAFTA website.

The EE BAFTA Film Awards 2026 ceremony will take place on February 22, 2026.
