In the United States Senate, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a meeting with more than 60 senators, during which they discussed the importance of imposing sanctions on Russia, the situation on the front lines, and the need to strengthen protection against Russian ballistic missiles.
“I thank the United States for its consistent, resolute, and truly vital support for Ukraine, as well as for its global efforts aimed at protecting our way of life – a life where people matter,” the Head of State said.
The President briefed the senators on the frontline situation, the scale of Russia’s losses, and the results of Ukraine’s mid-range and deep strikes, which are destroying Russian military logistics and enterprises serving this war. The senators recognized the success of Ukrainian warriors on the front lines and Ukraine’s ability to deliver just responses to Russian strikes.
Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is now facing the greatest ballistic threat in the world, and that ballistic missiles are Russia’s last argument in this war. Ukraine’s capabilities currently allow it to intercept 93% of drones, but there is not enough protection against ballistic missiles. According to the Head of State, once Ukraine has the capability to destroy Russian ballistic missiles, Russia’s chief will be forced to sit down at the negotiating table.
“We have been discussing for a long time the possibility of producing Patriot interceptor missiles in Ukraine, and Ukraine is ready and capable of producing them. I am grateful to President Trump and everyone in America who supports this idea. Let’s make it happen as quickly as possible, without unnecessary bureaucracy,” Volodymyr Zelensky said.
Particular and detailed attention was paid to sanctions and further pressure on Russia. The President emphasized that this was the main topic of his most recent meeting with Senator Lindsey Graham.
“I am convinced that a strong law imposing sanctions and tariffs on those who help Russia and Iran profit from the war would be the best way to demonstrate our shared respect for human life, our shared values, to Senator Graham and to everyone who protects life and fundamental human values,” Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized.
That same day, as a farewell ceremony was also held for the late Lindsey Graham, the U.S. Senate held a procedural vote on further consideration of the sanctions bill. The President of Ukraine was present in the chamber. The motion was supported by 86 senators, and the next step should be a vote on passage of the bill as a whole.
