The Russian army took advantage of the U.S. proposal to put strikes on a short-term pause in order to stockpile missiles and wait for the coldest days of the year.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated this following a video conference on the situation in the regions, particularly regarding energy infrastructure after today’s Russian strike.

“This was a deliberate strike against the energy sector, with a record number of ballistic missiles. In fact, the Russian army used the American proposal to pause strikes not to support diplomacy, but simply to stockpile missiles and wait for the coldest days of the year, when temperatures in much of Ukraine reach −20°C and below (−4°F and below),” the President said.

In this single strike alone, there were 32 ballistic missiles, 11 other missiles following ballistic trajectories, 28 cruise missiles, and 450 attack drones, most of them Shahed type. A significant portion was shot down, but not all, the President noted.
