Ukraine is working to strengthen its ballistic missile defence capabilities and expects increased production of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems in the United States next year and in Germany.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said this during a joint press conference with the U.S. president’s special representatives.
“Our weak point is our ballistic missile defence capability. We will strengthen it. I had meetings in both Norway and Canada. We need to resolve several issues concerning our Ukrainian ballistic missile defence system. We will have relevant meetings in the near future. I think we will move towards this result as quickly as possible. In addition, the American side will increase production of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems next year. God willing, the war will end, but we will still need them. We are counting on such systems to protect our country, so production volumes will increase next year — I am absolutely certain of that,” he said.
Zelensky also said that Germany had increased production of interceptor missiles. The president noted that agreements on assistance from German partners were already in place.
“Despite everything, what has been happening in the skies in recent days is simply horrific. Putin is doing this ahead of his elections. I am absolutely convinced of that because he is intensifying the strikes. You can see how he is terrorising our children, with attacks from morning until night,” he said.
The president added that Russian forces are using new tactics in their attacks. He said Ukraine is responding and will continue to do so until Russia’s terror and the war come to an end.
