Ukraine’s Defence Forces struck the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in the Russian city of Yaroslavl overnight on August 28. A fire was reported at the facility.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported the strike, adding that the extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Slavneft-YANOS is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries and is part of the Slavneft group. The refinery has an annual processing capacity of about 15 million tonnes of crude oil.
In addition to carrying out the full cycle of oil refining, the plant produces petrol, diesel and aviation fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, lubricants and other petroleum products.
According to the General Staff, Slavneft-YANOS is involved in supplying the Russian Armed Forces.
The Unmanned Systems Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said the refinery was struck using deep-strike capabilities. The target is located more than 700 kilometres from Ukraine’s state border.
