The Ukrainian delegation, which includes military personnel and Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, is heading to the Gulf region to assist in protecting lives and stabilizing the situation amid escalations following strikes by Iran.
This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky in a video address.
“Right now, our team—including the military and Rustem Umerov—is on the way to the Gulf region, where our people can help protect lives and stabilize the situation,” the head of state said.
He reminded that the situation has been complicated by strikes from Iran, as well as by the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the main routes for supplying oil and gas to the global market.
“This is a significant destabilization. No one in the world can yet say how long all of this will last, but it is important that the protection of lives is implemented as quickly as possible. Stability is needed for us as well,” emphasized the President.
He recalled that last year Ukraine offered the United States an agreement on drones—joint production and deployment of such systems. This direction is promising, because without Ukrainian experience, countries in the Gulf region, the Middle East, as well as partners in Europe and the U.S., would have difficulty building effective drone defense.
“We are ready to assist those who help us, who help Ukraine,” Zelensky emphasized.
He noted that the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, together with the military, intelligence services, the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will prepare specific agreements regarding cooperation.
“Ukraine is a reliable security donor. This is not only a security matter—it is also an economic prospect. Protection for Ukraine, cooperation with partners, development of Ukrainian manufacturing. Everything Ukrainians have learned for their own defense can become a global foundation for security—a global basis for a protected life,” the President stated.
