Ukrainian defense forces hit oil refinery in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod

Units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck an oil refinery in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

During the night of July 2, Ukrainian forces targeted the Lukoil-Nizhny Novgorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery in the city of Kstovo. 

Lukoil-Nizhny Novgorodnefteorgsintez is one of Russia's leading oil refineries and a key supplier of petroleum products to the Moscow region.

The refinery has an installed primary crude oil processing capacity of approximately 17 million tonnes per year. It produces more than 50 types of petroleum products, including gasoline, aviation fuel, diesel fuel, as well as petroleum bitumen, paraffin waxes, and other refined products.

A direct hit on the facility was confirmed, followed by a fire on the refinery's premises.

According to preliminary information, the AVT-6 primary crude oil processing unit was damaged.

The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
