Units of the Ukrainian Defence Forces struck facilities at the Afipsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region overnight on August 25, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Tuesday.
“A fire on the territory of the facility has been confirmed. The extent of the damage is being assessed,” the General Staff said.
In addition, Ukraine confirmed that two U-272 gas separation units at the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant in Russia’s Astrakhan region were hit overnight on August 24.
“Products from the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant are used to supply the Russian Armed Forces, while technical sulphur is used in the production of explosives,” the General Staff said.
The Afipsky refinery is one of the largest oil-processing facilities in Russia’s Krasnodar region. It has a design capacity of 6.25 million tonnes of crude oil per year. The plant produces diesel fuel and gasoline components, among other products, and is involved in supplying the Russian military.
The Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant is part of Gazprom’s network. It has a design capacity of up to 12 billion cubic metres of gas and around 7.3 million tonnes of gas condensate annually.
The plant produces commercial natural gas, stabilised gas condensate, gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, liquefied petroleum gases and technical sulphur.
