Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Acting Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara, and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi have agreed on priority defense tasks.
According to the President, the new Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be Major General Ihor Skybiuk — an officer who defended Ukraine alongside the newly appointed Commander-in-Chief. The relevant decrees on the appointments are being prepared.
“It is important that all components of our army continue to function in complete coordination,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine
Together with Mykhailo Drapatyi and Yevhen Khmara, the President also determined the future roles of Oleksandr Syrskyi and Andrii Hnatov. Zelenskyy thanked both for their service and wished Mykhailo Drapatyi and Ihor Skybiuk success and victories in their new roles.
The meeting participants discussed:
- organizational decisions for the development of Ukraine’s cyber forces;
- military training;
- strengthening the capabilities of military units.
Special attention was given to the transition of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to a corps-based structure. The practical and effective implementation of mobilization was identified as the key priority for maintaining the army’s combat readiness.
The President thanked Ukraine’s Defense Forces for implementing the plan of long-range sanctions against Russia and for maintaining a steady pace of long-range strikes.
Supply issues for these operations are being handled by Acting Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara, who has discussed them with battlefield commanders and weapons manufacturers.
The meeting also outlined steps and appointments aimed at accelerating the implementation of the Freya anti-missile defense program and negotiations with the United States on licenses for Patriot production.
The prospects for cooperation with European partners on joint air defense programs were also discussed.
