A pilot project by the Japanese corporation IKEE Group Ltd, involving the use of recycled demolition and dismantling waste for the production of materials in road construction and repair, was presented during a working meeting at the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The project focuses on collecting demolition waste (concrete, brick, asphalt), sorting and processing it, and then using it as secondary raw material for road construction and repair.
The pilot project was presented during a meeting between Deputy Minister Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi, the management of IKEE Group Ltd, and representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
“Using demolition waste as secondary raw material is an important step toward establishing a circular economy in Ukraine. Projects like this combine environmental responsibility with practical solutions for infrastructure restoration,” said Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi.
The parties also discussed state policy in waste management, the main results of the project, investment barriers, and potential mechanisms for further supporting Japanese business in Ukraine.
IKEE will facilitate the transfer of technology for producing all-weather materials for road repair using secondary fillers from demolition waste, as well as the commercialization of these products and technologies. This will help improve damaged road sections, strengthen logistical capacity, and accelerate the restoration of critical infrastructure.
Under the JICA scheme, the company is testing the material on Ukrainian roads and conducting trial production. The material can be used in various weather conditions, requires no complex preparation or specialized equipment, allows rapid commissioning of repaired sections, and demonstrates high durability under load.
IKEE’s solution demonstrates the possibility of combining waste recycling with modern construction technologies, aligning with European approaches to sustainable development and reconstruction. The Ministry supports the implementation of such innovative and environmentally responsible solutions in Ukraine.
