Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SOF) successfully struck oil infrastructure at the Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port in Russia’s Republic of Dagestan on the Caspian Sea coast overnight on September 10.
“The oil harbour handles tankers with a carrying capacity of up to 10,000 tonnes. An oil depot is also located in the immediate vicinity of the port. Striking the oil infrastructure of this transport hub directly affects Russia’s ability to use the Caspian Sea to transport and transship energy resources,” the SOF said on Telegram on Thursday.
The Makhachkala port is of strategic importance to Russian logistics, as it is Russia’s only ice-free deep-water port on the Caspian Sea and operates year-round.
President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier said that Ukrainian forces had struck eight Russian infrastructure facilities over the past 24 hours that support Russia’s war against Ukraine, including the commercial seaport in Dagestan.
