Ukrainian rescuers left for France on Friday morning to help fight wildfires in the country.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi announced this on Telegram.
"On the instructions of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and within the framework of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, a combined team of 70 rescuers and 15 specialized vehicles has been deployed to the French Republic," he said.
The day before, Vyhivskyi held an online conversation with French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, during which they discussed details of the Ukrainian rescue team’s work in France.
"If additional assistance is needed, we are also ready to deploy aircraft of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine to help fight the wildfires," the Ukrainian interior minister said.
He recalled that rescuers from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine have unique experience working in extremely difficult conditions.
"Every day, they deal with the consequences of Russian attacks, extinguish large-scale fires, conduct search and rescue operations, and work in areas of constant danger," the post reads.
Vyhivskyi thanked the French interior minister for his high assessment of the work of Ukraine’s Interior Ministry units and his readiness to strengthen cooperation between the two ministries.
"Despite the challenges of the full-scale war and dozens of attacks every day, Ukraine is always ready to help those who stand with us in the most difficult times," the Ukrainian interior minister said.
