To ensure the restoration of thermal power plants (TPPs) and combined heat-and-power plants (CHPs), Ukrainian energy specialists are searching for Soviet-type TPPs and CHPs in Eastern Europe from which equipment can be taken.

This was stated by First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal during a government question hour in the Verkhovna Rada.

He noted that manufacturing new equipment takes 4–6 months.

“We continue working with our partners to locate old, Soviet-type TPPs and power plants in Eastern Europe. We identify such facilities, jointly with energy experts conduct assessments and inventories, and take equipment in entire units,” Shmyhal said.

He added that the possibility of transferring equipment from a number of such facilities in Europe is currently being explored.

Shmyhal also reported that, in preparation for the next heating season, a reserve of equipment will be formed to replace what may be destroyed by Russian attacks. The procurement of such equipment is supported by the Ukrainian Energy Support Fund, which has accumulated €1.8 billion in contributions since its inception.
