Ukraine has officially requested the convening of an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with a second large-scale strike by Russian forces in recent days using missiles and drones, said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

The Ukrainian side called on the members of the Security Council and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which currently holds the Council’s presidency, to promptly support this request.

“Every Russian missile launched against Ukraine carries a message far beyond our borders. It seeks to convince the world that violence can replace law, that fear is stronger than solidarity, and that brutality comes without consequence,” Sybiha wrote on the social media platform X.

He stressed that delayed or weak responses from the international community are not capable of stopping Russian terror — only decisive, principled, and timely actions can do so — and called for unity to deter the aggressor and restore a just and lasting peace in accordance with the UN Charter.

Sybiha reminded that overnight Russia killed at least 11 people in Kyiv alone — and the number may rise. The previous strike on July 2 claimed the lives of at least 31 civilian residents of Kyiv.
