President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the signing of six agreements with Azerbaijan during his visit to the country, among which he separately highlighted security-related ones.

“We signed six documents today. Our teams will share the details later. These are different areas. Today, the number one area is security, the defence-industrial complex,” Zelenskyy said during a joint statement with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in the city of Gabala on Saturday.

The President of Ukraine also spoke about agreements on joint production and the work of Ukrainian experts in Azerbaijan.

“Of course, we will develop our cooperation, co-production. These are very important directions that will certainly increase both the security of our countries and our peoples, as well as trade turnover, which we truly want to significantly increase between our countries,” he said.

Zelenskyy described the signing of documents on the joint development of the defence-industrial complexes of both countries as a “very serious step”.

He also thanked Aliyev for 11 packages of support in the energy sector and assistance for children evacuated from border areas, and noted agreements in education, including the training of Azerbaijani students in Ukraine.

Aliyev, in turn, said that “quite serious cooperation” is currently taking place between Ukraine and Azerbaijan, and that it was once again confirmed during Zelenskyy’s visit.

“In terms of military-technical cooperation, we also discussed this issue. It has quite broad prospects, both in Ukraine and Azerbaijan. We see the development of military industries, the defence-industrial complex, and we can look at joint production. But overall, in manufacturing, we also have excellent opportunities. We had extensive talks about this today,” he said.

The Azerbaijani president also noted that the two countries discussed the need to develop trade turnover.

“It currently amounts to over 500 million US dollars, and I think it will continue to grow, because we have all the opportunities,” he said.

In addition to political dialogue, the sides also discussed energy cooperation.

“There are certain achievements we have reached. SOCAR has been successfully operating in Ukraine for many years. And now there are very good prospects. We have joint projects, joint initiatives, investments. All these issues were widely discussed today,” Aliyev added.
