Ukrainian forces struck the Tolyattikauchuk chemical plant in Russia’s Samara region on September 12, Ukraine’s Exilenova+ said.
The facility, located in the city of Tolyatti, caught fire following the attack. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Monitoring sources reported fires at several key production units at the plant, identified as BK-2, BK-3 and BK-4. The affected facilities are involved in the production chain for butyl rubber and isobutane-isobutylene fractions.
Tolyattikauchuk produces synthetic rubber, monomers, hydrocarbon fractions and high-octane petrol additives. According to the Ukrainian military, synthetic rubber produced at such facilities is also used in solid rocket fuel for tactical and ballistic missiles.
Reports of drone attacks and explosions in Tolyatti emerged overnight and during the morning of September 12. At the time, monitoring channels and OSINT analysts suggested that another major chemical producer in the city, KuibyshevAzot, may also have been targeted, with a fire reported at the facility.
KuibyshevAzot is a major Russian chemical producer and a leading domestic manufacturer of polyamide products.
The General Staff’s latest statement confirms the strike on Tolyattikauchuk, while the precise extent of damage to the plant remains unclear.
