The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has uncovered a new Russian information and psychological operation aimed at destabilizing the situation in Zakarpattia Oblast and increasing tensions between Ukraine and Hungary.

As a result of comprehensive investigations, it was established that the Russian operatives are using so-called number-spoofing technology via IP telephony. Specifically, from phone numbers appearing to be Ukrainian, the attackers made “anonymous” calls containing threats to members of the Hungarian national community.

During these calls, unknown individuals, pretending to be members of “national-patriotic formations” or even law enforcement officers of Ukraine, demanded that community members leave Ukrainian territory and threatened them with physical harm.

Technical analysis confirmed that the calls were made from the territory of the Russian Federation.

The SSU is currently working to block this information and psychological operation.

The Security Service of Ukraine urges citizens not to fall for such provocations. Anyone receiving threats or suspicious messages should immediately report them to law enforcement.

The SSU continues systematic efforts to counter Russian intelligence operations.
