The Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a large-scale drone and missile attack on Russian regions overnight on September 15. More than 40 drones targeted the Samara region, regional governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said.
According to Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova+, the Syzran oil refinery was among the targets. Following the attack, tanks containing petroleum products reportedly caught fire at the facility. The Rosneft-owned refinery had previously been targeted by drones on August 4.
In the Rostov region, “multiple consequences on the ground” and several fires were reported following a large-scale missile attack, regional governor Yuri Slyusar said. According to him, two apartment buildings and three private houses, an educational institution, commercial buildings, warehouses belonging to agricultural enterprises, a grocery store and an Ozon logistics centre were damaged.
Exilenova+ claimed that one of the targets of the missile strike was the Beriev Aircraft Company in Taganrog, where Russian military aircraft are repaired and modernised.
The previous day, US President Donald Trump said that Ukraine and Russia had agreed not to strike each other’s energy facilities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv was prepared to refrain from attacks on Russian oil refineries if Ukraine’s partners could guarantee an end to Russian strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure. According to Zelensky, any such agreement must be reliable and long-term.
