Starlink loss disrupts Russian forces as they prepare for larger attack

Russian forces are attempting offensives in the Lyman and Kupiansk directions of the front in Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kharkiv regions, but they are mostly focused on regrouping in preparation for a larger attack and trying to restore command and control after losing access to Starlink satellite communication terminals, according to Viktor Trehubov, head of the communications department of the Joint Forces.

“As of this morning, the Russian forces are regrouping more than they are attacking. We see attempts to advance in the Lyman and Kupiansk directions—that’s the main activity. There is also some activity by Russian forces in the Vovchansk direction over the past day,” Trehubov said on the “We Ukraine” TV channel on Monday.

He noted that the Russian forces are increasingly targeting Ukrainian logistical channels and reorganizing their troops to compensate for the loss of satellite communication.

“This is clear because, first, they are preparing for a larger offensive. Second, they have logistical and command problems due to losing Starlinks. If they want to launch an offensive, they need to solve this issue. They need to restore control over their forces, and for that, they require time to prepare. Although, honestly, it is unlikely they will fully compensate for this technological loss,” Trehubov added.
