The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) struck Russian forces’ air defense systems in the area of the Kerch Strait, as well as infrastructure at the Saky and Hvardiiske military airfields in the occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the SSU reported.
“Following the tasks set by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, fighters of the Alpha special operations center of the SSU carried out successful strikes on air defense assets of Russian forces in the area of the Kerch Strait, as well as on the infrastructure of the military airfields ‘Saky’ and ‘Hvardiiske’ in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea,” the Ukrainian security service said in a Telegram statement on Wednesday.
According to preliminary data, as a result of the special operation, four aircraft hangars for storing aviation equipment were hit at the Saky military airfield.
“In addition, near Kerch, two units of weapons from the S-400 surface-to-air missile system were struck, as well as two Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and gun systems,” the agency noted.
The SSU clarifies that this is already the fourth Pantsir-S1 system in this area that has been hit by the SSU’s Alpha unit.
“Russian forces are losing control of the skies over Crimea. Every destroyed air defense system and every struck military airfield opens new opportunities for further Ukrainian strikes on the enemy’s military infrastructure. The SSU will continue to methodically turn Crimea into a territory of constant losses for the Russian army until it leaves the Ukrainian peninsula,” the statement concludes.
