The Security Service of Ukraine's (SSU) counterintelligence officers have detained another Russian agent in Kyiv. According to available information, he helped coordinate large-scale Russian strikes on Odessa and Dnipro and was preparing a terrorist attack in Kyiv.

The suspect is an 18-year-old resident of Odessa who was recruited by Russian intelligence. Investigators established that in August this year, he helped direct a Russian strike on a postal logistics terminal in Odessa.

According to the investigation, the suspect provided Russian forces with the coordinates of the critical logistics hub, which was subsequently attacked by Russian jet-powered drones.

Later, acting on instructions from Russia, the agent travelled to Kyiv to prepare a terrorist attack. After arriving in the capital, he installed a hidden video camera connected to a power bank opposite the home of a potential victim.

The device was concealed inside a juice carton covered with tree bark. Using this surveillance device, Russian operatives hoped to monitor the Kyiv resident's daily routine and movements. To download the recorded footage and transmit it to Russian intelligence, the suspect took the camera home. SSU officers detained the agent shortly before he was due to send his "report" to Russian intelligence services. Investigators established that the suspect had been recruited by Russian operatives while looking for "easy money" on Telegram channels after leaving his job at a post office in Odessa.

Alongside helping to direct the attack on the logistics hub, the agent monitored the locations of Ukrainian air defence systems and defence industry facilities in Odessa region. He also travelled by train to Dnipro, where he conducted reconnaissance of coordinates provided to him by his Russian handlers.

During searches, officers seized the concealed video camera and a smartphone containing evidence of his cooperation with Russia.

SSU investigators notified the suspect that he was being charged under Part 2 of Article 111 of Ukraine's Criminal Code (high treason committed under martial law). The suspect is being held in custody without the possibility of bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
