On the night of September 17, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) carried out a special operation at the Rostov-Central military airfield in Rostov-on-Don, successfully striking several Russian aircraft.
Long-range drones operated by the SSU’s Alpha Special Operations Centre struck:
- one An-12 military transport aircraft;
- two An-26 military transport aircraft;
- three helicopters.
A large fire broke out in the aircraft and helicopter parking area, accompanied by secondary explosions.

In addition, the SSU, together with other units of Ukraine’s Defence Forces, including the Unmanned Systems Forces and Defence Intelligence, struck the Yaroslavl oil refinery. A fire was reported at the refinery following the attack.

The Security Service of Ukraine said it continues to systematically target military and strategic infrastructure facilities in Russia that support the war against Ukraine.
According to the SSU, such special operations are a direct response to massive Russian attacks on Ukraine, in which Russia systematically uses missiles, strike drones and aircraft to target Ukrainians and destroy civilian infrastructure.
