Military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has detained another Russian informant in the Mykolaiv region. The suspect is a 21-year-old serviceman of one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ air defense units who had been recruited by the Russian forces.

The investigation established that the suspect passed information to Russia about Ukraine’s air defense system near operational military airfields.

In particular, law enforcement documented that during an air raid alert, while on duty, the informant filmed with his mobile phone a monitor displaying classified software.

He also transmitted to the Russian forces data on the directions of Ukrainian military aircraft flights and the combat positions of Ukrainian air defense units.

Using this intelligence, Russian forces planned to strike Defense Forces airfields while bypassing radar stations and mobile fire groups.

However, SSU officers acted preemptively and detained the informant immediately after his first communication session with the Russian forces. At the same time, comprehensive measures were taken to secure the positions of Ukrainian forces.

It was established that the suspect had come to the attention of Russian intelligence services after posting pro-Kremlin comments on Telegram channels.

During searches, officers seized a smartphone containing evidence of cooperation with Russia.

The suspect faces up to 12 years in prison. The investigation is ongoing to establish all circumstances of the crime.
