The Moldovan Border Police reported that during the night leading into Wednesday, March 18, a Russian Shahed-type drone was detected in the country’s airspace.

According to NewsMaker, border guards spotted the drone at around 1:46 a.m. near the Palanca checkpoint. The unmanned aerial vehicle crossed into Moldovan airspace and headed toward the Ukrainian city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi (Odessa region).

Between 2:14 and 2:25 a.m., border guards again observed the drone over Palanca, after which it left Moldova’s airspace.

The Border Police stated that the drone was later destroyed over an estuary outside Moldova.

“The situation was under control, no incidents were recorded on the ground, and the safety of citizens was not affected,” the agency added.

At the same time, the Aviation Operations Service of Moldova’s Ministry of Defense did not confirm the detection of the drone. According to the military, the object “was not visible on radar.”
