A Russian bombardment has struck a logistics centre belonging to Fozzy Group, the major Ukrainian retailer whose Silpo supermarket chain imports and distributes wines and Prosecco produced by Italy’s Bottega SpA.
The attack took place near Kyiv during the night of 20 August, killing 15 employees, according to figures released by the company. The vast logistics facility was almost entirely destroyed.
It was the latest in a series of attacks against sites operated by Fozzy Group, which employs approximately 30,000 people and has been a commercial partner of the Veneto-based winemaker for several years.
On 4 August, another strike hit a Silpo warehouse in the area between Kvitneve and Brovary, in the Kyiv region. Fifteen buildings were damaged, including a logistics warehouse covering approximately 80,000 square metres. Six people were reported killed and many others injured, while the damage was estimated at around €27 million.
Stocks of Bottega wines and spirits worth approximately €120,000 were among the goods destroyed in that attack.
Just over a year after an initial strike in January 2025, the importer’s headquarters and facilities have therefore once again come under attack. Another Fozzy Group site had also been hit two weeks before the latest raid, leaving eight people dead and causing an estimated $58 million in damage.
The news has deeply affected Sandro Bottega, chief executive of the Treviso-based wine and spirits company.
“Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and all those affected by this tragedy,” Bottega said, adding that the company planned to provide tangible support to the victims’ families.
“We are not suffering the damage directly, but we are affected indirectly. Our company must, of course, continue operating and producing for markets around the world. Ukraine is an important market for us, although it accounts for around one per cent of our business.
“This is a senseless tragedy that deserves to be judged for what it is, beginning with the very first day of the fighting.”
Bottega also appealed for renewed international diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
“Our hope is that governments, together with the United Nations and countries around the world, will work as intensively as possible through diplomatic channels to find a solution that can bring peace,” he said.
