Russia launches massive attacks, civilian toll rises

Russian forces continued large-scale attacks across Ukraine on March 3–4, killing and injuring civilians while damaging homes, infrastructure, and energy facilities in several regions.

Donetsk Region

On March 3, Russian troops killed one resident of Donetsk region and injured five others, according to regional governor Vadym Filashkin.

One person was killed in Sloviansk. Two more residents were wounded there, while one person was injured in each of the following towns: Dobropillia, Druzhkivka, and Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka.

Filashkin noted that the total number of civilian casualties in Donetsk region since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion has reached 4,072 killed and 8,971 injured, excluding Mariupol and Volnovakha.

Kherson Region

Fifteen people, including two children, were injured over the past day as Russian forces carried out drone attacks, airstrikes, and artillery shelling across dozens of settlements, regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported.

Under attack were Antonivka, Sadove, Kizomys, Komyshany, Bilozerka, Velytenske, Chornobaivka, Dniprovske, Molodizhne, Stanislav, Sofiivka, Shyroka Balka, Oleksandrivka, Dariivka, Beryslav, Zolota Balka, Kachkarivka, Dudchany, Novoraisk, Burhunka, Vesele, Zmiivka, Ivanivka, Mykilske, Mykhailivka, Monastyrske, Olhivka, Tokarivka, Tyahynka, Chervonyi Maiak, and Kherson.

The strikes damaged seven apartment buildings, seven private homes, a municipal enterprise building, and private vehicles.

Dnipropetrovsk Region

Russian forces launched more than 10 drone and artillery attacks on the Kamianske, Synelnykove, Samar, and Nikopol districts, according to regional administration head Oleksandr Hancha.

In the Kamianske district, the Vyshneve community’s transport infrastructure was damaged. In the Synelnykove district, a private home was hit in the Dubovykivka community.

In the Samar district, the town of Pereshchepyne came under attack, sparking a fire and damaging infrastructure.

In the Nikopol district, Russian forces targeted Nikopol city as well as the Pokrovske and Myriv communities. A vehicle was damaged.

No casualties were reported in the region.

Sumy Region

Russian troops carried out 60 strikes on 30 settlements in Sumy region over the past day, killing one person and injuring another, regional police reported.

Communities in the Sumy, Shostka, Okhtyrka, and Konotop districts came under fire. Russian forces used guided aerial bombs, attack drones, FPV drones, multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), artillery, mortars, and other weapons.

In the Esman community, a 48-year-old man was killed.

In the Sumy city community, a 37-year-old man was injured. One vehicle was destroyed and two others damaged.

In the Shostka community, five private homes and two garages in a cooperative were damaged. Two warehouse facilities were damaged in the Bilopillia community, and a private home was hit in the Shalyhyne community.

Police investigative teams and explosives experts worked at the impact sites.

Separately, Sumy City Military Administration head Serhii Kryvosheienko reported that Russian forces struck Sumy overnight and into the morning of March 4. A hit was recorded in the Kovpakivskyi district, where windows of a residential high-rise and an auto shop were damaged, including the facade and metal cladding.

Mykolaiv Region

In the Bashtanka district of Mykolaiv region, a Russian ballistic missile strike — preliminarily identified as an Iskander-M — caused power outages, regional governor Vitalii Kim said.

The attack damaged a warehouse belonging to a farming enterprise and an overhead power transmission line. Two settlements were temporarily left without electricity; 123 consumers remain without power as restoration efforts continue. No casualties were reported.

In the Mykolaiv district, Russian forces attacked the Ochakiv community four times with FPV drones.

Over the past day, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down or suppressed six Shahed-131/136 strike drones and various decoy UAVs in the region, Kim added.

Zaporizhzhia Region

Russian forces launched 624 strikes on 36 settlements in Zaporizhzhia region over 24 hours, injuring two people in the Zaporizhzhia and Polohy districts, regional governor Ivan Fedorov reported.

The attacks included:

  • 21 airstrikes on Samiilivka, Lisne, Liubytske, Veselianka, Zeleni Dibrovy, Orikhiv, Kopani, Huliaipilske, Vozdvyzhivka, Dolynka, Hirke, Preobrazhenka, Novoukrainka, Charivne, and Verkhniya Tersa.
  • 358 UAV strikes (mostly FPV drones) on Novomykolaivka, Zarichne, Bilenke, Novoivanivka, Zhovti Kruchi, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Lukianivske, Mali Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Zelenе, Dobropillia, Pryluky, Shcherbaky, Charivne, and Varvarivka.
  • Four MLRS strikes on Stepove, Zaliznychne, Novodanylivka, and Varvarivka.
  • 241 artillery strikes on Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Lukianivske, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Zelenе, Dobropillia, Pryluky, Charivne, and Varvarivka.

Authorities received 50 reports of damage to homes, vehicles, and infrastructure.
