During the night of August 5 (from 6:00 p.m. on August 4), Russia launched a large-scale aerial attack on Ukraine using four Zircon/Oniks anti-ship missiles fired from the Kursk and Rostov regions, 24 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles launched from the Bryansk and Kursk regions, and 115 strike UAVs, including Shahed drones—most of them jet-powered variants—as well as Gerbera, Italmas, and Parodiya decoy drones.
The drones were launched from the directions of Kursk, Millerovo, and Oryol in Russia, as well as occupied Donetsk and Hvardiiske in temporarily occupied Crimea.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the primary target of the attack was the Kyiv region.
The assault was repelled by Ukrainian Air Force aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces.
According to preliminary data, as of 8:30 a.m., Ukraine's air defense had shot down or suppressed 98 enemy UAVs, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other drone types, over the country's northern, southern, and eastern regions.
Authorities recorded missile strikes and impacts by 17 attack drones at 26 locations, while debris from intercepted aerial targets fell at six additional locations.
