Pope Leo XIV has sent 80 electric generators and medicines to Ukraine for people suffering from the consequences of war and the cold, Vatican News reports.

In this way, the Pontiff responded to appeals from numerous bishops around the world who are aware of the suffering caused by the war and the hardships brought by freezing temperatures, amid the targeted destruction of energy infrastructure.

The supplies, which departed from the Basilica of Saint Sophia in Rome, have already arrived at their destinations in Fastiv and Kyiv, areas particularly affected by recent shelling.

In addition to the generators, thousands of packages of medicines, dietary supplements, and melatonin were sent to Ukraine. Melatonin is in high demand as it helps regulate sleep during a period marked by fear and constant stress.

The Dicastery for the Service of Charity also reported that preparations are being completed for another shipment containing antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and antihypertensive medications, as well as various food products. After arriving in Ukraine, the aid is distributed through a network of parishes across different dioceses and eparchies.
