Pope Leo XIV expressed concern over the intensified mass strikes against Ukraine and voiced support for the civilian population affected.
He made the statement at the end of a general audience in St. Peter’s Square, as reported by Vatican News.
“I am following with concern the war in Ukraine, which has significantly intensified in recent days. I want to express my closeness to all those suffering from the consequences of recent strikes, which have also been directed against the civilian population,” Pope Leo XIV said.
He emphasized that war does not solve problems, but only deepens them.
“It does not create security, but only multiplies suffering and hatred. Where missiles and drones fall, hope is destroyed, homes and places of worship are destroyed, and innocent lives are lost,” he added.
