Polish fertilizer producers replace Russian supply in Ukrainian market

Polish fertilizer producers replace Russian supply in Ukrainian market

Polish companies Grupa Azoty and Anwil have become key suppliers of mineral fertilizers to the Ukrainian market, effectively replacing Russian products following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, according to WNP.pl.

The report notes that Polish manufacturers have been among the main beneficiaries of Russia’s exit from the Ukrainian market. Polish exports have increased amid significant damage to Ukraine’s domestic chemical and industrial production. By the end of last year, only two of Ukraine’s six major fertilizer plants were still operating due to disruptions in gas supplies.

“The growing interest in Polish fertilizers is not accidental. The war forced Russia out of the market, and the biggest winners are our largest producers — Grupa Azoty and Anwil. We are outperforming the Russians in this field,” analysts told the publication.

WNP.pl also emphasized that stable demand for fertilizers is driven by the significant role of agriculture in Ukraine’s economy. With Ukraine holding an estimated 25% to 40% of the world’s black soil reserves, soil nutrition remains critical for maintaining yields of wheat, corn, and barley.

Demand for fertilizers in Ukraine is expected to remain high in the medium term, further strengthening the position of Polish exporters, the report concluded.
