In August 2026, Russian forces maintained a high intensity of combat operations along the entire front line.
At the same time, Russian aircraft used the largest number of guided aerial bombs (GABs) since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, according to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Average number of daily combat engagements reached 230 in August
Combat activity remained intense throughout August, with 7,115 combat engagements recorded along the front.
This amounted to an average of almost 230 combat engagements per day.
In addition, Russian forces carried out more than 98,000 attacks during August. In terms of the overall intensity of fire, August remained on a par with the most intense months of 2026.
More than 8,700 Russian guided aerial bombs used in August
During the month, Russian aircraft used 8,766 guided aerial bombs, the highest monthly figure recorded since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
For comparison, Russian forces used 8,266 guided aerial bombs in June and more than 8,300 in July.
Ukraine is awaiting the first delivery of Swedish JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets together with long-range Meteor air-to-air missiles. The aircraft and missiles are expected to significantly strengthen Ukraine’s Air Force and expand its ability to counter Russian aircraft and the guided aerial bombs they launch.
