Russian forces have begun constructing a base in temporarily occupied Crimea where they are likely planning to store unmanned surface vessels (USVs) operated by the Russian military. Satellite imagery of the construction work was published by analysts from the OSINT project CyberBoroshno.
The analysts identified newly constructed hangars on the shore of Lake Donuzlav near the settlement of Novoozerne. The facilities are designed for the repair or storage of vessels.
CyberBoroshno noted that there are currently no signs of Russian forces actively deploying USVs.
“However, the construction of such infrastructure suggests that the enemy is likely at the testing stage and is preparing a base for the future deployment of this type of system,” the OSINT analysts said.
Lake Donuzlav is located on the western coast of the Crimean Peninsula. It is connected to the Black Sea by an artificial navigable channel constructed in the 1960s.
