A massive Russian attack on energy infrastructure in Odessa region on Wednesday caused serious water supply disruptions in Odessa and the surrounding area, as some of the most powerful facilities were left without electricity and cannot operate on generators, according to Infoksvodokanal, the company responsible for water supplies to the regional capital and nearby settlements in Odessa district.
“Due to the enemy’s massive attack on energy infrastructure, some of our most powerful facilities remain without electricity and cannot operate using generators. As a result, water supply is temporarily unavailable to consumers in part of Odessa’s Peresyp district and several settlements in Odessa district,” Infoksvodokanal said.
In Odessa, the Luzanivka residential area and the Kotovskoho residential district remain without water, as do the city of Pivdenne and nearly 20 villages.
The company said energy workers are working to restore electricity supplies, after which water supply should stabilise.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, Odesa City Council reported that electric public transport had stopped operating due to the Russian attack on energy infrastructure and the resulting power shortage.
Ukrenergo said in its daily update on the operation of Ukraine’s power system that the electricity supply situation in Odessa region is currently the most difficult in the country following the Russian strikes.
Ukrnafta also reported that one of its filling stations in Odessa region sustained extensive damage in a Russian drone strike.
