Most Ukrainians returned from Russian captivity require urgent medical assistance. Some of them had been held in captivity since 2022.

This was stated on television by the Ukrainian Parliament’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.

“Today we managed to bring back 200 of our heroes, some of whom had been in captivity since 2022. Among those returned are representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as well as other military units of the National Guard of Ukraine. As for their psychological and medical condition, all those returned require urgent medical assistance. Today a separate team from the Ukrainian Ombudsman’s Office was working there, documenting the condition in which our heroes returned. A very large number of those returned have medical problems, quite serious ones. There are guys with ulcers on their legs. There are guys who urgently need not only medical but also psychological assistance. Almost all of them are exhausted, with clear signs of critical weight loss,” Lubinets said.

He added that all those returned from Russian captivity were urgently transported to a location where they are receiving initial medical care.

The ombudsman also noted that among those who returned today, 18 are celebrating their birthdays in March. In addition, the mother of one of the prisoners celebrated her birthday on March 5, and immediately after returning he called her. Lubinets also said that among those released from captivity is a man who had been serving a sentence in a Ukrainian prison, voluntarily joined the Defense Forces, was captured, and has now returned home.
