More than 220,000 Ukrainian citizens are registered as beneficiaries of temporary protection in Romania.
This was reported by Romania’s General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI), according to Romanian outlet EcoPolitic.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and through August 31, a total of 223,808 beneficiaries of temporary protection have been registered in Romania.
“Of these, 220,881 are Ukrainian citizens, representing 98.7% of the total number of registered beneficiaries of temporary protection,” the IGI said.
According to the report, residence permits have been issued or extended for these individuals in accordance with Romanian law.
The IGI also reported that 935 asylum applications were submitted in Romania during the first eight months of 2026. Nearly half of them — 466 applications — were filed by Ukrainian citizens.
