During a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump, the two sides agreed to intensify the negotiation process. This was reported by Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov.
Negotiations between Ukraine, Russia and the United States have not taken place since February due to the outbreak of the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran. The latest meeting at the White House took place as Ukraine continues to successfully strike Russian targets both inside Russia and in occupied territories. Despite this, Moscow still refuses to end the war.
In a new post, Budanov said that Ukraine and the United States “held a substantive discussion on the diplomatic and security steps needed to bring a just peace closer.”
The head of the Presidential Office noted that, together with their American partners, the Ukrainian delegation “has a clear understanding of the need to end the war as quickly and fairly as possible.”
“We agreed to intensify the negotiation process at all levels,” the Ukrainian official said.
Judging by photos from the meeting, the Ukrainian side also included current Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council and head of the delegation Rustem Umerov, Acting Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, head of the presidential Servant of the People parliamentary faction Davyd Arakhamia, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States Olha Stefanishyna, Budanov’s first deputy, diplomat Sergiy Kyslytsya, and Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Brigadier General Pavlo Palisa.
The U.S. side included, among others, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
