The Kupiansk story is very embarrassing for Russian propaganda — repeating the statement about “capturing” the city for the fourth time will be ridiculous even for Russians themselves.
This was stated by the spokesperson of the Joint Forces, Viktor Trehubov, during a telemarathon broadcast.
According to him, Russian propaganda has three times claimed that the Russian army supposedly fully took Kupiansk. There were also statements about the “capture” of the settlement Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi and the alleged encirclement of four Defense Forces brigades there.
“This is so fantastical that it doesn’t even fit in Russian minds anymore. And this is a story that doesn’t need to be repeated unnecessarily,” Trehubov said.
He also commented on the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, citing the Russian Defense Ministry, about allegedly destroying 25,000 tanks in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war. Trehubov emphasized that there aren’t that many tanks even in all countries of the world combined.
“There are not 25,000 tanks in the whole world combined, including the Russian Federation itself. So any story about Kupiansk, repeating now that they took it for the fourth time, will probably be too ridiculous even for Russian propagandists and their audience,” the military officer said.
According to him, as of now in Kupiansk there are 20 to 30 Russian forces, holed up in two buildings and using them as an improvised fortress. The number of Russian forces is constantly decreasing, which benefits the Defense Forces — there is no need to storm the city, because the Russians are incapable of doing anything from there.
