Ukrainian steel and railway products manufacturer KLW, part of Interpipe, has supplied 850 mm railway wheels for Turkey’s flagship YHT high-speed trains, which operate at speeds of up to 250 km/h. The YHT service, connecting western and eastern regions of Türkiye, carries thousands of passengers daily, and its growing network continues to expand.
For this shipment, KLW used ER8 steel, Category 1, specifically engineered for high-speed rail applications. Maintaining a precisely controlled rim hardness range was critical to ensure compliance with stringent quality standards and production processes.
Inna Shevtsova, Railway Products Sales Manager for Africa and Asia markets at KLW, highlighted the challenges of entering the passenger rail segment:
“We’ve set an ambitious goal to enter and grow in the passenger wheel market. This segment is even more technologically demanding than freight, as each passenger train has a unique wheel design, every national railway operator sets its own standards, and the certification process is usually complex and lengthy. Deliveries for the YHT line are a great opportunity for us to strengthen our position in the high-speed segment in Türkiye and the region.”
