Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said India has provided Ukraine with 19 consignments of humanitarian assistance, including 160 tonnes of generators, medicines and medical equipment.
He made the remarks at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in Kyiv on Thursday. Jaishankar said he would meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later in the day and convey greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“So far, we have provided 19 consignments of humanitarian assistance, including 160 tonnes of generator sets, medicines, medical equipment and other supplies. Minister Sybiha and I will discuss what more can be done in this regard,” Jaishankar said.
He also expressed regret and condolences over the death of an Indian citizen in an attack on Kyiv two days earlier. Jaishankar said India believes that “solutions will not emerge from the battlefield.”
“Every day of conflict only means more deaths and more destruction. Clearly, the parties involved must find a way forward. But if India can be of any help, we are ready,” the foreign minister stressed.
He added that this had been one of the key issues discussed during his talks with the Ukrainian foreign minister.
The two sides also discussed attacks on commercial shipping.
