General Staff: Russian troop losses surpass 1.5 million
Article top vertical

Today, the total combat losses of Russian personnel since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine surpassed 1.5 million killed and wounded.

These are the largest losses the Russian army has suffered in a single war since the Second World War. The figure exceeds the combined losses of the Soviet and Russian armies in all wars and armed conflicts of the second half of the 20th and early 21st centuries.

This is 100 times greater than the Soviet Union’s losses during the 10-year war in Afghanistan. It is 125 times greater than Russia’s officially acknowledged losses in the First and Second Chechen Wars.

Behind every recorded Russian loss is a specific Russian serviceman who came armed onto Ukrainian soil, as well as the immense, daily collective effort of Ukraine’s Defence Forces and the entire Ukrainian people.

The estimated total Rusian combat losses from 24.02.22 to 09.09.26

  • personnel – 1 500 870 (+1 480) persons
  • tanks – 12 338 (+6)
