Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) uncovered an FSB agent who, on the orders of Russian forces, attempted to identify and transmit the coordinates of airfields in the Cherkasy region to Russian forces.

According to the investigation, the suspect is a 21-year-old student at a regional university. He came to the attention of Russian forces while seeking “easy earnings” on Telegram channels.

Case materials indicate that if the airfields were located, the agent was also tasked with gathering information on the presence of combat aircraft and personnel at these restricted facilities.

To collect intelligence, the recruited individual surveyed local areas and photographed airfield infrastructure from a distance.

Later, to avoid detection, the agent moved to Kyiv, hoping to “lay low” in the large city for a while before resuming espionage activities for Russia.

SSU counterintelligence located and arrested the suspect in the Ukrainian capital.

At the same time, the Security Service carried out measures to secure the locations of the Defense Forces.

During searches, authorities seized the suspect’s smartphone, which he used to coordinate his activities with an FSB handler.

SSU investigators charged the agent under Part 2, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed during martial law).

The suspect remains in custody without the possibility of bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
