Amid the threat of heating and electricity disruptions caused by Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, G7 countries are mobilising support ahead of winter, while France is strengthening Ukraine’s air defence, including through the supply of radar systems and interceptor missiles, French President Emmanuel Macron said.
“Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure threaten to leave millions of families without heating and electricity. France will stand with Ukraine to help it get through the winter, and the G7 Energy Group is also mobilising to support it,” Macron wrote on X following what he described as a detailed discussion with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York.
According to Macron, France is strengthening Ukraine’s air defence, including through a contract for radar systems and the provision of interceptor missiles.
“We are strengthening Ukrainian air defence by signing a contract for the supply of radars and providing interceptor missiles,” he said.
Macron also said he had discussed this support with US President Donald Trump, as well as the prospect of an energy ceasefire and a moratorium in the Black Sea, both of which France supports.
“This will be one of the key issues in the negotiations, which must resume and lead to a just and lasting peace,” the French president said.
