Grigore-Kalev Stoicescu, chairman of the Estonian Parliament's National Defence Committee, has called for the complete closure of Estonia's eastern land border with Russia, according to ERR.

The Estonian lawmaker argued that keeping border crossing points open under current conditions creates unnecessary risks to the country's national security amid Moscow's continued aggressive policies, hybrid threats, and provocations by Russian intelligence services.

Stoicescu said the experience of neighboring countries, particularly Finland, has demonstrated the effectiveness of strict measures in preventing artificially created migration crises and stopping the infiltration of intelligence operatives.

He added that a complete suspension of passenger and transit traffic would deprive the Kremlin of an important instrument of pressure and strengthen the security of not only Estonia, but also NATO's eastern flank and the European Union.

Discussions are continuing in the Estonian parliament over the procedures and timing for the possible introduction of a full closure of the border with Russia.
