Estonia is doing everything possible to help Ukraine obtain additional missile defence systems, Estonian President Alar Karis said.
“Estonia is doing everything possible to ensure that Ukraine receives additional missile defence capabilities. At present, we do not have the capacity to manufacture these systems ourselves and supply them directly to Ukraine, but we are using all diplomatic means at our disposal to ensure that ballistic missiles no longer strike civilians and infrastructure,” Karis said at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Tuesday.
He stressed that Estonia remains committed to supporting Ukraine and Ukrainian society.
“Since the beginning of Russia’s aggression, we have provided Ukraine with €1 billion in assistance, amounting to approximately 0.25% of our GDP annually. We hope that in doing so, we have set an example for other, larger countries,” the Estonian president said.
Karis also said Estonia expects deeper cooperation between the defence industries of the two countries.
“Our defence industries have much to offer each other, and we in Estonia have much to learn from Ukraine. Our main focus is on the joint production of weapons systems and the development of defence capabilities. Our joint agreement is an important step in this direction,” Karis said.
