Energoatom is implementing agreements with Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB on localizing the production of components used in nuclear fuel assemblies.
The separate division Atomenergomash (AEM) has received the materials needed to manufacture the first batch of tailpieces for VVER-1000 fuel assemblies. The production process is expected to take four months.
The components manufactured at Ukrainian facilities will be used in fuel production for Ukraine’s nuclear power plants.
“The launch of native production of components for fuel assemblies is a crucial step in achieving Ukraine’s strategic goal of strengthening energy security and establishing energy independence. Furthermore, the qualification process for another fuel assembly component – top nozzles for fuel cassettes – is currently underway,” commented Pavlo Kovtonyuk, Head of Energoatom.
As a reminder, Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB has recognized Energoatom’s affiliate – SS Atomenergomash as a qualified and approved supplier of nuclear fuel components for VVER FAs. The quality system of Atomenergomash complies with Westinghouse’s standards.
