Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces have carried out their deepest strike inside Russia since the beginning of the war. In particular, SOF Deep Strike units successfully struck the Novy Urengoy and Purovsky plants.

“Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces have carried out their deepest strike inside Russia since the beginning of the war. On September 9, SOF Deep Strike units successfully struck two giants of Russia’s gas condensate industry — the Novy Urengoy and Purovsky plants,” the statement said.
Both facilities are located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, one of Russia’s key oil and gas producing regions. SOF drones travelled more than 3,000 kilometres to reach their targets. Until now, the area had been considered a completely secure rear zone for Russia.
According to the SOF press service, both facilities are of critical importance to the gas condensate industry. The plants process and prepare significant volumes of gas condensate extracted from fields on the Yamal Peninsula.
The Novy Urengoy facility has a design capacity of 19.5 million tonnes of feedstock per year, while the Purovsky plant processed 13.4 million tonnes of gas condensate in 2025.
The gas condensate industry is an important component of the Russian economy and generates revenue for the Russian federal budget.
