The city of Nizhnekamsk in Russia's Republic of Tatarstan came under a massive drone attack on the morning of August 10. Industrial and civilian facilities were hit, according to Nizhnekamsk Mayor Radmir Belyaev.
According to the press service of the head of Tatarstan, 13 people, including one child, were killed in the attack, while 39 others were injured.
Based on an analysis of photos and videos published by eyewitnesses, Astra reported that one of the likely targets was Nizhnekamskneftekhim (NKNK), one of Russia's largest petrochemical complexes. The facility is the key enterprise of SIBUR's Volga industrial cluster and the country's leading producer of synthetic rubber.
The industrial zone of Nizhnekamsk, where Nizhnekamskneftekhim is located, also includes Tatneft's oil refinery and the TAIF-NK refining complex.
The Tatneft refinery was attacked by drones in June this year, while TAIF-NK came under attack in early July. Nizhnekamskneftekhim itself was also targeted in March.
