Drone attacks were reported overnight in the Russian cities of Tolyatti and Taganrog, with fires breaking out at several industrial sites, according to Russian officials, monitoring channels and open-source analysis.
In Tolyatti, Samara region, monitoring channels reported that the KuibyshevAzot chemical plant may have been targeted. Videos published by local residents showed a fire in the city’s industrial zone, although the exact location and extent of the damage have not been independently confirmed.
KuibyshevAzot is one of Russia’s major chemical producers, manufacturing ammonia, urea, ammonium nitrate, caprolactam and polyamide. Some of its products are used by Russia’s defence-industrial sector.
Samara regional governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev reported what he described as a “massive UAV attack” overnight and said Russian air defences were responding. Russia’s aviation authorities temporarily suspended operations at Samara’s Kurumoch airport.
Explosions and several fires were also reported in Taganrog in Rostov region.
According to an OSINT analysis by ASTRA, one column of smoke appeared to originate from the area of the Taganrog-Central military airfield, which hosts Russia’s 708th Military Transport Aviation Regiment.
The 325th Aircraft Repair Plant is also located near the airfield and specialises in repairing transport aircraft and producing components for them.
Satellite fire-detection data from NASA FIRMS also indicated fires on the territory of the former Taganrog Automobile Plant, known as TagAZ. Monitoring channels reported that a storage tank may have caught fire.
The former automobile plant is now used for various industrial purposes and has reportedly also been used for military-related production, including the assembly of strike drones.
The precise targets and extent of damage from the overnight attacks have not yet been independently confirmed.
