First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with Vice President of the European Investment Bank Karl Nehammer. They discussed expanding cooperation in the energy sector.
“Today, cooperation with the EIB already covers 8 projects worth €1.3 billion. We are grateful for consistent support that helps strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system,” Denys Shmyhal said.
Among the key priorities outlined were preparations for the upcoming autumn-winter period, restoration of damaged infrastructure, and implementation of medium- and long-term projects.
“We have requested to expand the project portfolio and support new initiatives, in particular in the areas of protecting energy infrastructure, restoring generation, networks and the gas sector, as well as creating equipment reserves,” Shmyhal said following the meeting.
The specific areas of cooperation include:
- a new electricity grid resilience project;
- support for substation protection;
- development of cross-border interconnectors and integration with ENTSO-E;
- decarbonization projects;
- development of hydropower.
“We count on the continued participation of the EIB in financing key projects that strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system,” the head of the Ministry of Energy emphasized.
