Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence has published details on the War & Sanctions portal about a new version of Russia’s jet-powered Geran-4 UAV, which Russian forces began using in autumn 2026.
“The upgraded Geran-4 includes, in particular, a new MOH unit based on the high-precision PNI5GA magneto-inductive sensor (magnetometer) manufactured by PNI Sensor in the United States. The MOH operates together with the SADRA inertial navigation module and reduces gyroscope drift, improving the accuracy of the UAV’s autonomous navigation,” Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence said on Telegram.
In addition to satellite and inertial navigation, Russia has added another autonomous navigation system called Susanin. It is an electro-optical correlation system that compares images from an optical sensor with reference images stored in the computer’s memory to ensure that the UAV follows its intended route from the launch point to the target.
A similar system is also used in the new K5 version of the Geran-5 UAV.
“To effectively strike — by cutting with a shaped-charge jet — bridge structures and overhead power line pylons, the enemy has begun using a new KRSN warhead, a specialised shaped-charge cutting payload. The Chinese Telefly turbojet engine has been replaced by a Russian-made equivalent localised in Alabuga,” Defence Intelligence said.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, the remaining electronic units and components are unchanged and identical to those used in previous Geran drones.
